UNTGG marks 2nd Anniversary of the China Gender Facility The United Nations Theme Group celebrated two years of the China Gender Facility and honoured nine new recipients of CGF grants on 12th July. UNIFEM Results Based Management Workshop Nine organisations chosen to be recipients of the third round of CGF grants journeyed to Beijing to participate in a capacity building workshop on results based management in early July. Results based management is a management strategy that focuses on measurable, monitorable and relevant outcomes or results as its central orientation. Inner Mongolia Advocacy Workshop The Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region is renowned for being one of China 's most important steel and coal producers, housing numerous minorities, its beautiful landscapes and traditional songs and dances. One can now add another point to the list: the progress that it has made to the development of women in China. UNIFEM Regional Programme Director visits Beijing Dr. Jean D'Cunha, UNIFEM Regional Programme Director for East and South East Asia Regional Office visited China during 19 - 21 March 2007. Xuzhou sees launch of pilot shelter for domestic violence survivors As CGF implementing agency, UNIFEM, in cooperation with the Ministry of Civil Affairs, the Xuzhou Municipal Government and Xuzhou Women¡¯s Federation, launched a new initiative to promote shelters for survivors of violence against women. UNIFEM Advocacy Capacity Skills Building Workshop Nine grantee organizations gathered in Xian for a capacity building workshop on advocacy skills in late October 2006, over one year on from the implementation of the projects approved in June 2005. Nicole Kidman as UNIFEM Goodwill Ambassador in Shanghai in June 2006 raised funds from OMEGA for China Gender Facility Nicole Kidman made her very first visit to China in June 2006 in connection with OMEGA's watch launching ceremony in China . Ms. Kidman, as a UNIFEM Goodwill Ambassador, also helped draw attention to the status of Chinese women by raising funds for the UNIFEM Gender Facility. United Nations System in China Marks Second Anniversary of Gender Facility on 27 April 2006, Beijing Capacity Building Workshop held for second batch grantees of China Gender Facility, April 2006 Publications on Gender and Governance translated in April 2006 Linked to the overarching UN theme of Women's Role in Decision-Making for 2006, a set of translated training manuals on Gender and Governance was published. This publication was initiated by the Ford Foundation, technicallysupported by UNIFEM China and was financially made possible by the UNDP Regional Governance Programme, Asia Pacific Gender Mainstreaming Programme and UNIFEM East & South-East Asia Regional Office. International Day for the Elimination of the Violence against Women The white ribbon is the symbol for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (EVAW) which falls on the 25th of November of each year. The day marks the start of a 16-day global campaign against violence against women which runs through World AIDS Day on 1 December to Human Rights Day on 10 December. Beijing +10 Conference held in August 2005 The conference to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women was held in Beijing. The conference reviewed international and national successes and persisting challenges. It presented the recommendations to the Millennium Summit 2005. Launch of the China Gender Facility With the aim of mainstreaming gender into plans, policies and programmes in China through promotion of advocacy and social dialogue on gender equality, the China Gender Facility (CGF) was set up by the UN Theme Group on Gender. On 26 May 2005 , the Facility was successfully launched in Beijing. |
